Holidays

Hello :-)

Very soon I will be leaving Perth to have my very first 7 weeks European tour visiting all the well known places: London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Florence, Piza, Nica, Rome, Paris.....
This trip has a dual purpose - my childhood dream coming through and my honeymoon trip (22 years overdue).

I just wonder if there is somebody out there who can offer some good/useful tips as I don't want to waste my time on unimportant things.
Regards,
Tanatro

  1. You could spend a month alone in London and Berlin easily. Well, I certainly could, anyway. I found Amsterdam to be rather tacky, but Prague was quite nice - and dirt cheap.

You'll have to do a travel blog while you're away so we can all be properly envious!

  2. I went on a whirlwind Contiki tour a couple of years ago and have the follwing advice:
    1. Don't pack too light! I was only there for a month and thought I would shop more than I did, so I left plenty of room in my case. Big mistake - I got very sick of wearing (and washing!)the same three t-shirts every few days!
    2. Prague is so delightful and not too touristy. I loved an excellent vintage clothing store called Art Deco Gallerie. Oh and the pretzels on the pub tables aren't free!
    3. I avoided the Red Light District in Amsterdam but my hubby and I loved the Heineken factory - it's like the Scitech of beer! Also you must eat some frites (chips)- they come with such a variety of sauces there! mmm, dippable!
    4. Are you going to Munich? If so, you must drink a litre stein of beer in a beer hall. It sounds like a lot but I'm not really a beer fan so if I did it, anyone can!
    5. To be honest, Piza was just a slopey building surrounded by cheap and nasty markets. Check it out if you must but don't waste a whole day there!
6.Go to the Camden Markets in London - they are the coolest!
7.Berlin is excellent in so many ways. Obviously the Berlin wall is a must, as is the nightlife. A lot of clubs in Europe I found really cheesy, but Berlin had some cool ones with good music.
    8. We went up the Eiffel Tower in the evening and it was lovely up there but freezing. Bring a hoody! The Paris department stores are worth a look and have lots of good food that you should take and eat in the park.Ooh and check out the Moulin Rouge - it is expensive but mind-blowing. Don't bother with the dinner - it is cramped and mediocre. Just go for the show.
9.Take care and have fun! :)

  3. When you are in Prague take some trips out to the countryside as well if you can. Places like Karlovy Vary and Karlstjyn can be done as a day trip.

  4. Hello my bloging friends,

You are my life savers. Since the time when we got plans for this trip done I started questioning myself about the "city" choices. I wasn't particulary happy to go to see Berlin and Prag but my huby was quite adamant on this matter. Now after reading your comments on these places I am quite happy to go to visit them (of course that I will not disclose this litle fact to my huby) :-)
Can somebody tell me something about "Check point Charly"(not sure about correct spelling)in Berlin.

Another very good advice was on "Don't pack too light".
That was exactly my intention and after some thinking engaging my spaghetti I decided that I want to spend my holidays holidaying not washing..... and in less then 7 weeks......
